States with Highest Population Density
The state of West Bengal has the highest population density in India, with 1,029 persons per square kilometer. This is followed by Bihar with 1,102 persons per square kilometer, and Uttar Pradesh with 828 persons per square kilometer. The National Capital Territory of Delhi also has a very high population density of 11,320 persons per square kilometer, making it one of the most densely populated states in India.
States with Lowest Population Density
Arunachal Pradesh is the state with the lowest population density, with only 17 persons per square kilometer. This is followed by Sikkim with 86 persons per square kilometer, and Mizoram with 102 persons per square kilometer. The population density in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is also very low, with only 46 persons per square kilometer.
Population Density of Other States
The population density of Goa is 394 persons per square kilometer, which is lower than the national average. The population density of Gujarat is 308 persons per square kilometer, which is much lower than the national average. The population density of Rajasthan is 200 persons per square kilometer, and of Maharashtra is 365 persons per square kilometer. The population density of Tamil Nadu is 555 persons per square kilometer, and of Karnataka is 319 persons per square kilometer.
Population Density in North-Eastern States
The population density of Assam is 397 persons per square kilometer, which is slightly lower than the national average. The population density of Manipur is 128 persons per square kilometer, and of Nagaland is 119 persons per square kilometer. The population density of Meghalaya is 132 persons per square kilometer, and of Tripura is 350 persons per square kilometer. The population density of Arunachal Pradesh is 17 persons per square kilometer, which is much lower than the national average.

The population density of Madhya Pradesh is 236 persons per square kilometer, and of Chhattisgarh is 188 persons per square kilometer. The population density of Andhra Pradesh is 308 persons per square kilometer, and of Telangana is 317 persons per square kilometer. The population density of Odisha is 269 persons per square kilometer, and of Jharkhand is 414 persons per square kilometer.
