Population Density in India 2011

India is the world�s second most populous country with 1.2 billion people in 2011. Despite having a large population, India has a low population density compared to other parts of the world. According to the 2011 Census, India had a population density of 382 people per square kilometer. This is much lower than the world average of 50 people per square kilometer.

In 2011, the population density of India varied significantly between states. Uttar Pradesh was the most densely populated state with 828 people per square kilometer. This was more than double the national average, and was the highest population density of all states in India. Bihar was the second most densely populated state with a population density of 810 people per square kilometer.

Kerala was the third most densely populated state with a population density of 819 people per square kilometer. West Bengal was fourth most densely populated state with a population density of 1,029 people per square kilometer. Tamil Nadu was the fifth most densely populated state with a population density of 555 people per square kilometer.

Maharashtra was the sixth most densely populated state with a population density of 365 people per square kilometer. Punjab was the seventh most densely populated state with a population density of 550 people per square kilometer. Assam was the eighth most densely populated state with a population density of 397 people per square kilometer.

Haryana was the ninth most densely populated state with a population density of 573 people per square kilometer. Madhya Pradesh was the tenth most densely populated state with a population density of 236 people per square kilometer. Rajasthan was the eleventh most densely populated state with a population density of 200 people per square kilometer.

The other states and union territories in India had much lower population densities. Gujarat had a population density of 308 people per square kilometer, while Andhra Pradesh had a population density of 308 people per square kilometer. Karnataka had a population density of 319 people per square kilometer, while Jharkhand had a population density of 333 people per square kilometer.

Goa had the lowest population density among all states in India with a population density of 394 people per square kilometer. Chandigarh had the second lowest population density with a population density of 9,252 people per square kilometer. Lakshadweep had the third lowest population density with a population density of 2,013 people per square kilometer.

Delhi was the fourth least densely populated state with a population density of 11,297 people per square kilometer. Puducherry was the fifth least densely populated state with a population density of 2,487 people per square kilometer. Daman and Diu had the sixth least densely populated state with a population density of 2,253 people per square kilometer.
